  9. I've just built this on an SGI Indy, and it seems better than previous
  10. releases. I have two problems, though:

  12.      1. On our Sun Sparcs, the configure/make commands choose `cc'
  13.         over `gcc' when both are in my path. I'd prefer the use of
  14.         gcc on this machine, yet `make CC=gcc' has no effect - so I've
  15.         had to edit make/common.make to set `CC=gcc'. This is not suitable
  16.         for the Indys, though, where the SGI `cc' is preferred. How can
  17.         I make the compiler choice system-dependent?

  19.      2. PostScript emitted by e.g. the LaTeX2e `rotating' package (which
  20.         emits `ps:' specials) is displayed in an incorrect position (too
  21.         high up, and shifted a little to the right in one example, if that
  22.         helps - I havn't set enough figures to be able to describe the
  23.         systematic behaviour.) dvips gets the position correct. I suppose
  24.         that the PostScript reference frame is not established correctly by
  25.         xdvi. I can provide an example .dvi file if this will help.
